Thank you, Dale Shepherd's pie is traditionally made with a ground-lamb filling, but we make ours with ground beef. The sauce is really simple and flavorful, but the best part is the insanely fluffy mashed potato. So, this is how you spell it: Shepherd's Pie. But, from doing a quick google search, it came to my attention that TONS of people think it's Shepards Pie.

Instructions to make Shepherd's pie:
  1. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan, add onion and carrots for a few mins. When soft,turn up the heat, crumble in the beef and brown it, Add the tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce, then fry for a few mins. Pour over the stock, bring to a simmer, then cover and cook for 40-45 mins, uncovering halfway.
  2. Heat the oven to 180C. Boil the potatoes for 15 mins until tender. Drain, then mash with the butter and milk.
  3. Put the mince into an ovenproof dish, top with the mixed and make mark with a fork. The pie can now be chilled and frozen for up to a month. Bake for 25 mins until the top is starting to brow and the mince is bubbling through at the edges. Take it out and leave dish to stand for 5 mins before serving

Traditional Irish Shepherd's Pie would actually call for ground lamb. The difference between Shepherd's Pie and Cottage Pie is the meat. Typically shied away from Shepherd's Pie (High school cafeteria nightmares) :-) but this was fabulous - substituted corn for peas based on household preference.
