Brown the sausages evenly on all sides, adding a little more butter or oil if needed. Add the onions and beer broth back to the skillet and keep warm. Instead of water I boil beer seasoned with a number of yummies ( pickling spice, garlic, onion, dried peppers, black pepper, saurkraut) don't need them all but makes a difference. Add brats to boiling beer and simmer until just done. Place the bratwurst on top of the onions and pour the beer over the bratwurst.
