The ingredients needed to make Kuzhi Coconut Paniyaram:
  1. Make ready 3 cups Idli batter
  2. Get to taste Salt
  3. Get 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  4. Get 1 tsp Red chilli flakes
  5. Take 1 Onion chopped
  6. Get 5-6 tbsp Coconut powder
  7. Make ready 2 - 3 tbsp Coriander leaves chopped
  8. Make ready 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  9. Make ready 2 tsp Sambhar masala

Cook until the bottom is brown and the top if puffed up. Flip the paniyaram and cook until the bottom is golden. Now Add the grated coconut and stir well and switch off the stove. Now add the sauted shallots ,soaked sago and salt to taste to the idli batter and mix well.

Instructions to make Kuzhi Coconut Paniyaram:
  1. In a bowl add idli batter, salt, red chilli powder, red chilli flakes, onion, mustard seeds, coconut powder, sambhar masala and coriander leaves. Mix well.
  2. Heat paniyaram pan. Add little oil in each hole. Add spoonful of batter in each hole. Cover and cook on low flame for few mins or till bottom turns golden.
  3. Flip the side again cover and cook for 2-3 min. Open the lid and turn the flame on high. Cook for 2-3 min or till golden & properly cooked. Switch off the flame.
  4. Place kazhi paniyaram in plates and serve hot with sambhar.

It is also called by other names like paniyaram in Tamil, paddu in Kannada, ponganalu in Telugu. This kuli paniyaram recipe is made by using paniyaram / appe pan or Aebleskiver pan. I usually make this Chettinad kuzhi paniyaram recipe for breakfast or evening snack with coconut chutney or kara chutney and a cup of filter coffee. Paniyaram is made on a special pan that comes with multiple small fissures. It is known by various names in South India , including paddu , appe , guliappa , gulittu , yeriyappa , gundponglu , ponganalu.
