  1. For pongal wash rice and moong dal. Add rice, moong dal, water and salt in pressure cooker and cook it well.
  2. Meanwhile, in a pan add ghee. When ghee is hot add cumin seeds, pepper and dry red chillies.
  3. When it splutters add this mixture to the cooked Pongal and mix well.
  4. For vada soak black eyed beans whole night or atleat 4 to 6 hours.
  5. Grind the soaked beans with salt. In this add chopped green chillies, onion, ginger, cumin seeds, chilli powder and mix well. If needed add some rice flour at this step.
  6. In a pan heat oil. When oil is hot take a ball of this mix and shape into round vada on another hand.
  7. Drop this vadas in hot sizzling oil. Fry it on medium flame until it becomes golden brown.
  8. Serve Pongal and Vada hot with chutney.
