- Take 2 Cups overnight soaked Chana daal/cholar daal

- Prepare 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Prepare As required Refine oil for cooking
- Prepare As required Water for cooking
While the chana dal is soaking, I make a masala of tomatoes and onions in the pot. Saying 'Bengal gram dal' refers to the product, not the chick pea itself. While 'gram' is a collective term for grain legumes, similarly 'dal. Punjabi chana dal recipe, just like my mom made growing up!
Steps to make Chana dal & roti:
- In a pressure cooker pour soaked dal with one green chilli & boil it till 3 whistles. After that drain water & keep aside.
- In a kadai heat oil to fry kaju & kismis. Take it out & keep in a bowl aside. Now in the same oil add whole garam masala with bay leaf.
- Add cumin seeds in the oil then add boiled daal & saute it for few minutes. (Those who want to add potato & coconut now add them & fry little don't make golden brown).
- Add salt, sugar, ginger paste, Kashmiri Lal mirch powder, green chilli, cumin powder & mix it well.
- Add adequate amount of water & let it boil add fried kaju & kismis, when gravy becomes thick add garam masala powder.
- Serve it puri, roti & paratha. I have served it with roti.
