  2. Take 6 Gooseberry

  4. Prepare 1 1/2 cups Sugar

  6. Prepare Juice of half lemon

Let the jam cool for a few mins - this will thicken it and prevent any lumps from sinking to the bottom of the jars - then ladle into hot jars, seal and leave to cool. It's quick and very simple to make and will last for up to a year once it's made. Not that ours ever lasts that long. Return jam to a boil before transferring to a jar.

Steps to make Apple Gooseberry Jam – Healthy Jam:
  1. Put the chopped apple (with skin), gooseberry, beetroot in a deep non-stick saucepan with 1 & 1/2 cups of water. Cook, it covered for 10 minutes on medium-high flame. Switch off the flame and allow to cool down completely. Grind boiled apple, gooseberry, and beetroot into a smooth puree. It yields 2 & 1/2 cups of puree.
  2. Now add sugar and cook on medium-low flame for 10 minutes. Once jam starts to thickens switch off the flame. Allow jam to cool down and then add lemon juice. Mix well and store in a clean glass jar.
  3. Tips :

Lift jam with a spatula and pour jam, it should flow together and not in drops. Pour few drops of prepared jam on a plate if it spreads then it’s not ready if it stays firm without moving then the jam is ready. Allow jam to cool completely. Then store in a clean and dry glass jar. Keep jam in the refrigerator after every use. Use a clean and dry spoon. It last long for 3 months.

Wipe rims of jars with a clean, damp cloth; cover tightly with sterilized lids and screw tops. Place a small plate in your freezer. Recipe : Gooseberry and Raspberry jam. This was a bit of an accident to be honest, though I suspect someone has written about it before. I was making gooseberry jam and needing to make up the weight added a couple of handfuls of handy home grown rasps.
