  1. Rinse the lentils through a sift until the water runs clear

  3. Leave to boil for around five minuets and remove all of the foam from the top.
  4. Add the turmeric, garam masala, cumin seeds and salt. Add the chillies/ chilli power depending on how spicy you like your curry. You can also add coriander if you like it. Leave this on a low heat for 30 mins.
  5. Chop one onion and two garlic cloves in vegetable oil, frying to onions first then adding the garlic.
  6. Add a big spoon of butter into the friend onions and garlic.
  7. Pour the butter onions and garlic into your daal and leave for another 30mins.
  8. I like to have my daal with a buttery naan but you could have with chapatis or rice too.
