Spiced Rice is one of the most favored of recent trending foods on earth. It is enjoyed by millions daily. It is easy, it is fast, it tastes yummy. Spiced Rice is something that I’ve loved my entire life. They’re nice and they look wonderful.

Simple Spiced Rice Haiku: "Subtle flavor kiss. Humble simple spice." Basmati is of such a light ethereal taste that it doesn't need to compete with heavy seasonings. But this simple method of preparing it yielded an airy buttery lightly-spiced rice that would compliment just about any entree.

The ingredients needed to make Spiced Rice:
  1. Get 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  2. Take 1 clove garlic, smashed but still in its skin
  3. Prepare 2 cloves
  4. Get 4 black peppercorns
  5. Make ready 2 cardomom pods
  6. Get 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  7. Make ready 1 bay leaf
  8. Get 1 pinch salt

If you can't get hold of broad beans, this is also delicious with freshly podded or frozen peas. Sprinkle in the turmeric, then add the curry paste and cook until aromatic. Add the rice and the raisins, stir and cook for a good few mins, then add the stock and bring to the boil. One of the traditional ways that basmati rice cooked in India involves flavoring it with cinnamon, cumin, and cardamom.

Instructions to make Spiced Rice:
  1. Rinse the rice in a sieve until water is clear (no more starch)
  2. Heat the oil in a smallish saucepan with a lid, add the spices and garlic clove and fry them for one minute.
  3. Stir in the rice, getting it coated in the spices.
  4. Add the water, stir one more time, then cover and allow to cook for 10 minutes.
  5. When you can see through the lid that there are no water bubbles in the rice, but before it dries out and starts to burn, turn off the heat, remove the lid and cover the pan with a clean tea towel. Leave it like this until you are ready to serve
  6. Take off the tea towel, fetch out the spices and smashed garlic clove (they should be at the top of the rice anyway) then use a fork to fluff up the rice before putting it on the plate.

In this preparation, the spices are fried in oil and then the rice and water added to the pot with the fragrant oil. Saffron is arguably the most popular spice for rice. Fill a roomy saucepan with water, bring to the boil and tip in a heaped teaspoon of salt - the water will bubble furiously. I've always loved the fragrant flavour of spiced pilau rice, and could easily eat it just on it's own, adding nuts to give it some crunch. However, it's also an excellent accompaniment to any spiced or curried dish.
