- Get 150 g dry spaghetti,
- Take 1 tin tuna in spring water, (112g), drained
- Take 80-100 g pitted green & black olives,
- Make ready 15-18 baby plum tomatoes, left whole or cut into halves,
- Take 1 small red onion (100g) chopped very finely,
- Prepare 1 red chilli, sliced into thin rings, (de-seeded if you wish),
- Prepare 1 tbsp tomato pureé paste,
- Make ready 2 cloves garlic, crushed,
- Prepare 1 tbsp capers, (optional)
- Take 1 tsp dried parsley,
- Make ready 1 tsp dried basil,
- Make ready Some lemon rind,
- Take Fresh lemon juice (around 2 tbsp worth)

- Get 5-8 tbsp pasta cooking water

Spaghetti with puttanesca sauce is an Italian classic. I have made this recipe several times, and it always turns out yummy. I used it in my middle school cooking class and they loved it! Make it with canned tomato paste and crushed tomatoes, canned anchovies, jarred olives and capers.
Steps to make My Spaghetti Puttanesca:
- Get a large saucepan on the hob filled with salted water and bring to the boil for the pasta. Add the spaghetti and begin to cook according to packet instruction, (usually takes 9-10 mins).
- While the pasta cooks heat a large saucepan over a medium to high heat and spray in some oil. Once warm add the chopped onions, crushed garlic and chilli. Fry for a couple of minutes then add in the tomatoes. Cook for a further minute then sesaon with pepper and a little salt (don't use much salt as this dish has many salty ingredients).
- Add the tuna, tomato paste and dried herbs and stir through. Then add a few spoons of pasta water in to make a sauce. Add the capers and olives. Stir everything until well combined. Add a touch more pasta water if the sauce looks a tad dry. Turn the heat down to low. Add the lemon juice and rind, stir through and leave to simmer on low.
- Once the pasta has cooked, drain off and season with pepper. Add the drained pasta in with the sauce and gently mix together until the spaghetti is lightly coated.
- Serve up whilst hot and enjoy! :)
