The ingredients needed to make Apple and Blackberry Pie:
  1. Make ready 4-5 large apples cut it into slices and peeled
  2. Prepare 1 cup blackberries
  3. Make ready 1 pack pre-made short-crust pastry
  4. Make ready 50 g sugar
  5. Take 1 free-range egg

This is best of all made with wild brambles, which seem to have twice as much flavour as the cultivated kind. In a large bowl, combine apples and blackberries. Combine the brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg; add to fruit mixture and toss to coat. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie; place over filling.

Steps to make Apple and Blackberry Pie:
  1. Heat the oven to 160°C fan
  2. Roll out the pastry to about 1cm thick.
  3. Place the pie tin on top of the pastry and cut around it just a bit wider to allow for it to ground the sides.
  4. Put a spoon of sugar on the bottom of the pastry in the pie dish.
  5. Layer the apples on top like a clock face (e.g one slice of apple at 12 o'clock, another at 1 o'clock etc).
  6. Scatter the blackberries over the top of the apples and the rest of the sugar.
  7. Cut the remaining pastry into strips and lay on top of the fruit.
  8. Crimp the edges together and egg wash the criss crossed pastry.
  9. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes 160°C fan
  10. Once cooked serve with ice-cream or custard and…

Place pie on middle oven rack; place sheet of foil on rack below pie in case of spillover. Top with a thin layer of apples. In a large bowl, combine blackberries and remaining apples; sprinkle with lemon juice. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface, large enough to cover the pie. Place the pastry over the filled pie dish, then seal and flute the edges.
