I dont say i am a perfect cook, but I am trying to be better with my. Girmit recipe is a very popular street food from North Karnataka prepared from puffed rice or churmuri or murmura. This snack recipe is extremely popular in Hubli-Dharwad region of Karnataka also know as masala puffed rice or north karnataka mandakki upkari in other places. Steps to make Girmit Masala Chaat:
  1. Heat 4 tsp oil in a pan and add 1 tsp mustard, ½ tsp jeera and few curry leaves and let them splutter.
  2. Now add 1 finely chopped onion and 2 green chilli. saute well. - Add ½ tsp turmeric and ½ tsp salt. saute for a minute.
  3. Now add tamarind extract and jaggery. - boil for 3 minutes then add 1 tsp putani powder and mix well. - girmit masala
  4. For serving – - - Take 2 cups puffed rice in a bowl, add in 1/4 cup of prepared girmit masala - also add 2 tbsp onions and 3 tsp putani powder. - give a rough mix.
  5. Finally, serve north karnataka style girmit recipe garnished with few coriander leaves and handful of sev or any mixture.
